Divorce is never easy. It marks the end of a shared journey, often filled with happy memories, but it doesn’t have to be a painful or adversarial experience.

Founding partners of law firm, One Family Law Solicitors in Bath, Tina Marshall Kelliher and Victoria Barnett take a compassionate approach to help couples navigate this difficult time together, focusing on mutual respect and understanding.

A Modern Approach to Divorce
With the introduction of no-fault divorce in the UK, couples no longer need to assign blame for the breakdown of their marriage. This change allows separating partners to focus on moving forward, rather than dwelling on the past.

The divorce process itself is straightforward: it begins with an online application and a fixed court fee of £593. After the application is issued, there’s a mandatory 20-week period before a Conditional Order can be applied for. While this waiting time can feel long, it offers a valuable opportunity for reflection and working through financial or family arrangements.

Six weeks after the Conditional Order, the Final Order or Decree Absolute, can be granted, officially ending the marriage.

Choosing a Collaborative Path
At One Family Law, we believe in reducing conflict wherever possible. Our tailored “one solicitor, one couple” approach is designed to help both parties work together to find solutions that are fair and respectful. By sharing one solicitor, couples can focus on reaching agreements that benefit everyone involved, particularly when it comes to children.

We’ve seen first-hand how open communication and mutual respect can help couples maintain civility during the most challenging time. While emotions often run high, prioritising what matters most—like the well-being of children— and focusing on life afterwards, can make all the difference.

Supporting Your Family’s Needs
We know how daunting divorce can feel. That’s why we’re here to guide you with empathy and understanding. Whether it’s untangling finances or agreeing on co-parenting arrangements, our role is to make the process smoother, so you can focus on healing and rebuilding.

Divorce is the end of a chapter, but it’s also the start of a new one. With the right support, it’s possible to part ways amicably and move forward with dignity. We consider it our privilege to be able to support you every single step of the way with fairness and transparency.
